Vaping is being threatened from many angles, even from within, the hipster cloud chasers vs. the two pack a day smoker who uses a simple ego and clearo to not smoke. Dual users are maligned by many.
We have lost our focus on the choice we made. At some point each of us made the decision to choose life. We did this when we picked up our first personal vaporizer and threw away that pack of cigarettes.
As vapers that decision whether we knew it or not put us in the sights of many adversaries. There are public health organizations, clean air organizations, misinformed politicians, big tobacco companies, pharmaceutical companies and people who just don’t like the way vaping looks all focused on you.
They don’t care that you are trying to remove yourself from the statistic that 480,000 Americans die every year from smoking related illnesses. They don’t care if you are one of the 278,544 men that die from smoking every year that simply wants to coach your son or daughter’s little league game, or dance at their wedding. 201,773 mothers, sisters, aunts, grandmothers die every year from smoking related illness also.
We call vaping a “Disruptive Technology”.
“A disruptive technology is an innovation that helps create a new market and value network, and eventually disrupts an existing market and value network (over a few years or decades), displacing an earlier technology.”
You can see how the personal vaporizer fits that bill. The problem is that it is so disruptive that it threatens so many status quos. We threaten Big Tobacco’s hold on the nicotine market, Pharma’s drug market for treating nicotine dependence and ultimately reducing those horrible statistics quoted above. Without cigarettes as the big boogieman the public health organizations will have a lot of spare time and fewer donated dollars in their coffers.
I see the hashtags all the time. #vapingsavedmylife #notblowingsmoke #thetruthaboutvaping all get heavy circulation within the vaping community. We are preaching to the choir. This is the message that needs to get out into the mainstream.
We have not been able to grab the public’s attention and they do not believe that we have made the right choice. They are listening to those people that would have them believe that our e-liquid contains massive amounts of formaldehyde or filled with carcinogens. All they hear is that e-liquid is full of additives that make them more addictive that regular cigarettes.
We need to find better ways of getting the truth into the public perception. Those stories need to be published and circulated as widely as the misinformation. Right now we are starting to get the word out, but it is only the beginning.
Far too many people do not know how many lives can be saved. For us to gain the strength needed to win this war we have to have non-vapers standing with us. This is not a battle for our right to vape it is a battle for our right to live. If only vapers are standing to defend and protect vaping we have started the fight without the army.
TheTruthAboutVaping.com has just completed the first TV spot to counter the misinformation. Everyone should go here and share it everywhere they can. This spot and others like it have to be broadcast everywhere.
We can not let that 480,000 number stay where it is. We have chosen life and we must allow this wonderful innovative/disruptive technology to continue to grow and push out those companies and people that want to continue to profit from the deaths of so many.
One life lost to smoking is too many. Especially when we have in our hands a device that can do everything that a cigarette can do except one thing. Kill you.
